Where is parking particularly expensive?

Zurich: visible standard offers run from about CHF 115 to CHF 300. A current UrbanHome listing in Zurich 8055 is CHF 160 per month.[1][15]

Geneva: roughly CHF 170–325 in the visible sample, with premium offers higher.[2]

Zug: many underground spaces sit around CHF 160–300.[3]

Basel and Bern: residential areas can start around CHF 120, while highly central spaces can reach roughly CHF 270–300 or more.[5][6]

Outdoor, underground or private garage: what costs more?

Outdoor

Usually cheapest, but no weather protection.

Underground

Protected and often more secure, so usually more expensive.

Private garage

More privacy and storage; often expensive in central areas.

EV parking: charging often adds a premium

A current Basel offer lists CHF 135 for a standard space and CHF 175 with a charging station. A Bern Europaplatz offer lists CHF 175 standard and CHF 200 with charging, plus a CHF 120 onboarding fee and electricity usage.[5][6]

Why 8.1% VAT is sometimes added

Many listings add 8.1% VAT for external tenants. Switzerland's current standard VAT rate is 8.1%.[10]

Always compare the contractual final price, not only the headline rent.

Parking-space leases: Swiss legal rules

If a parking space is rented separately, and the contract does not provide a different or longer period, the general statutory rule is two weeks' notice to the end of a one-month rental period. If the space belongs to a residential lease, the main lease's termination rules generally apply.[11]

A written contract should state the space number, rent, VAT, notice period, access, vehicle limits and charging conditions.[12]
